What The Readers are Sayin’…

Well, here’s what readers are saying:

  • “…I could tell from the first pages that I was in good hands with the telling of this adventure.”
  • “I couldn’t put the book down. I finished it in two sittings over a 24 hour period.”
  • “…anecdotes that sometimes put you in mind of listening to a cowboy by the campfire.”
  • “…captured me from the first page. A glimpse into times past, an America no longer accessible, and a journey for no real reason other than a personal drive.”
  • “One of the best books I’ve read in a long time, and I read a LOT.”
  • “ …like all the other girls then and now, I just fell in love with the horse. I love how much John loved him and cared for him.”

The book’s out now, and I’ve gotta say, it’s doing okay. I’m hoping it’s gonna grow legs and get on out there, farther into the real world. It’s a bit like your children. You nuture them along and, at some point, you give ’em a shove and send them out on their own. A bit of your ego is wrapped up in them, a good amount of trust and wishful thinking is sent along for the ride, and they carry a big piece of your heart with them.

This literary adventure is not something I pictured myself embarking upon. But I’m glad I did. I don’t know what I thought I should expect, but I sort of expected it to somehow die a quick and silent–and somewhat peaceful–death, spending its decline languishing in the 50 cent shelves of used book stores, picked up by readers not so much because of its story appeal, but because it has a picture of a good looking horse on its cover.

I reckon we’ll see… It’s a big world out there, and I’m sort of hoping that I can do right by Gizmo, and that he gets to take another ride in the sun for a while. Giddyup…
